    Then & Now Event

Take a look back at the history of the game franchise you love. Since 1993, the Settlers has been bringing you gaming goodness. See the pieces of the franchise’s history and how they fit together and evolved into what we play today. Sometimes, it’s just as fun to look back as it is to look forward, so we hope you will enjoy this ongoing event!

This week we are showing the evolution of the Carrier unit, starting from the first Settlers and ending with Settlers 7.

The original Settlers was launched in 1993, Settlers II followed and launched in 1996, Settlers III launched in 1998, Settlers IV in 2001, The Settlers: Heritage of kings in 2004, The Settlers: Rise of an empire in 2007, and finally The Settlers 7: Paths to a kingdom in 2010

The whole franchise has sold over 9 million units worldwide and is one of Ubisoft’s multi-million units selling brands.

I still enjoy playing Settlers II every now and again, It's where I was introduced to the series, I still find myself going back to that one more than the others.

i had to buy anniversary edition when my SII disk died.
my only complaint was the music on SII: Anniversary isnt the same as Veni Vidi Vici, the Cd audio stuff on there was awesome.

Silly question...but serious. I've played and enjoyed many UbiSoft games but I am brand new to this type of game. I never played any of the settlers games.
What I'm wondering is how are these games related to Castle Empire? Would Castle Empire be considered a new edition (beta) released in 2011? Or is Castle Empire a completely different game?

    Thanks!

Castle Empire is the US version of "The Settlers Online".

That said, I absolutely love the settlers. I currently still play 5, 6 and 7. I need to try to find 1-4.

I'm hoping that eventually Castle Empire will implement some sort of "campaign mode". I assume that the "Epic Adventure" are trying to accomplish this to some degree, but I always loved the underlying storyline in the Settlers games, and am hoping that the tradition continues here. I'm also hoping that the skills and research capabilities of the universities eventually will come into play. However, considering how new the game is, I definitely love it and give it 2 thumbs up.
